Hatchards Authors of the Year

Got back from a wonderful evening at the Hatchards Authors of the Year Reception. So many great authors in the room. Had a chance to say hi again to Frank Gardner: BBC Security Correspondent, Journalist & Author and hear about his new thriller underway and also to chat about wildlife and birds - a shared interest. Mick Herron was there so I was keen to hear about his new Jackson Lamb novel. They're a great read.

It was a lovely surprise to bump into and chat with Luke Jennings whose Villenelle novels were turned into the hit television series Killing Eve. He's a canny fisherman is Luke and a man of many parts. The biggest challenge was thinking about what it means to be Welsh - as Simon Jenkins was telling me about researching the Celts. I have a Welsh grandfather and did part of my schooling and played rugby there. I only have a drop of the stuff in my veins but it's a key part of who I am. Time was short and we never pinned it down. It's in the blood is the closest I got.
