THE DEVIL'S BREATH won the prestigious French award, Le Prix Polar Jeunesse, was shortlisted for the Manchester Book Award and the Spellbinding Award, nominated for the Carnegie Medal, and picked for the government's recommended reading list for boys. The book has also been shortlisted for the 2010-2011 Isinglass Teen Read Award in New Hampshire, USA. Each book in the series takes the intrepid, though vulnerable hero, Max Gordon to a different geographical setting.

David Gilman writes: "Max Gordon has the spirit of adventure that I believe lies within everyone, and as I have been scared on occasions in my life because of the jobs I've done, I tempered his resourcefulness with vulnerability and fear. This teenager has physical and emotional challenges to face, not least the exploration of a son’s love for his father–and that started his first adventure: The Devil’s Breath"

What they are saying...

David Gilman’s debut, The Devil’s Breath, is a gung-ho eco-adventure… what Gilman does superlatively is heart-pounding action.
